ETHIOPIA is the oldest independent nation in Africa; the only African nation never to be colonized. It has a heritage dating back to the first century AD. In the fourth century AD, Christianity was introduced when the Ethiopian Orthodox Church was established.

The world’s most phenomenal Great Rift Valley cuts Ethiopia into two parts, forming a series of thrilling lakes around which many of Ethiopia’s national parks are centered. The widely varying habitats, which include mountains, lakes, deserts, savannahs, and everything in between, host an astonishing array of wildlife, many of which are endemic, unique to Ethiopia.  Many visitors know Ethiopia for its splendid rock-hewn churches and colorful ceremonies, symbolic of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
